Caroline & John’s Vintage Garden Wedding at St. Francis Hall

There is something undeniably romantic about a wedding at St. Francis Hall. With its beautiful historic architecture, soaring ceilings, arched windows, and warm, character-filled interiors, the Washington, DC venue provided the perfect backdrop for Caroline & John’s timeless celebration.

For their wedding flowers, we embraced a vintage pastel palette and an elevated garden-inspired aesthetic. The floral design was lush and romantic, with an organic quality that complemented the historic character of St. Francis Hall without competing with it.

A Garden-Inspired Ceremony

The ceremony was framed by two lush, branchy urn arrangements designed to feel natural, organic, and slightly untamed. Their generous scale and airy movement complemented the architecture of St. Francis Hall while creating a beautiful focal point around the couple.

One of our favorite details of the ceremony design was that the urn arrangements were created with the entire wedding day in mind. After the ceremony, they were relocated to the reception space, where they continued to frame the room and provide a visual connection between the ceremony and celebration that followed.

Repurposing the ceremony flowers allowed the arrangements to take on a second life while creating a cohesive floral story throughout the wedding.

A Vintage Pastel Palette

Caroline & John’s floral palette was soft, romantic, and inspired by the charm of a vintage garden. Muted pastel tones brought softness to the historic setting, while the lush, organic shapes of the arrangements kept the overall design feeling fresh and contemporary.

The combination of the delicate color palette and abundant floral design created an elevated garden-style aesthetic that felt perfectly suited to St. Francis Hall.

Lush Reception Centerpieces

For the reception tables, we designed lush centerpieces filled with an abundant mix of garden roses, roses, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus, cosmos, and fresh herbs.

Each ingredient contributed something different to the overall design. Garden roses and roses brought classic romance and fullness, while ranunculus added delicate layers of texture. Butterfly ranunculus and cosmos introduced movement and an airy, meadow-like quality, while fresh herbs added unexpected texture and reinforced the natural garden aesthetic.

The arrangements were intentionally lush and dimensional, creating a sense of abundance across the reception tables while maintaining the soft, vintage feeling of the overall design.

Floral wreaths added another layer of romance throughout the reception space, echoing the garden-inspired centerpieces and helping carry the floral story throughout the historic room.

Flowers That Feel Like a Garden in Bloom

Rather than creating arrangements that felt overly structured or formal, we wanted the reception flowers to have the movement and personality of a garden in bloom. The varied textures of the roses, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus, cosmos, and herbs allowed each centerpiece to feel layered and collected.

The soft pastel palette kept the arrangements cohesive, while the variety of floral shapes created visual interest from every angle. The result was lush without feeling heavy, romantic without feeling overly traditional, and elevated while still retaining the effortless charm of a garden.

A Perfect Floral Setting in Washington, DC

St. Francis Hall was the perfect setting for Caroline & John’s wedding. Its historic architecture created a beautiful foundation for the floral design, allowing the flowers to soften and enhance the space while still allowing the character of the building to shine.

For a Washington, DC wedding florist, venues with this much architectural character offer an incredible opportunity to create designs that feel connected to their surroundings. For Caroline & John, we used that character as inspiration, pairing the timeless beauty of the building with soft pastels, lush garden-style flowers, and thoughtful floral details.

From the ceremony urns that were repurposed for the reception to the lush centerpieces and floral wreaths, every element was designed to feel like part of one cohesive celebration.

The finished wedding was romantic, nostalgic, and full of garden-inspired beauty—a perfect reflection of Caroline & John’s celebration at St. Francis Hall.
